LIVE THE SONG – Come with me.

Song of Songs 2:10- 13

She

10 My beloved spoke and said to me,
    “Arise, my darling,
    my beautiful one, come with me.
11 See! The winter is past;
    the rains are over and gone.
12 Flowers appear on the earth;
    the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
    is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree forms its early fruit;
    the blossoming vines spread their
fragrance.

Arise, come, my darling;
    my beautiful one, come with me.”

Winter is past and Spring is on it’s way.

LIVE THE SONG- Look! Here he comes…

Song of Songs 2:8-9

She
8 Listen! My beloved!
Look! Here he comes,
leaping across the mountains,
bounding over the hills.
9 My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Look! There he stands behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
peering through the lattice.

Look!

Do we look at our husbands? Do we look at our husbands bodies? Do we look at how they move?

LIVE THE SONG – Embrace Me

Song of Songs 2:6-7

She

 6His left arm is under my head,
    and his right arm embraces me.
Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you
    by the gazelles and by the does of the field:
Do not arouse or awaken love
    until it so desires.

His right arm embraces me.

How our husband embraces us can set the tone for sex.

The Big Question – How Do I Have an Orgasm During Intercourse

big-questionIt is the question women most often ask about sex,

“How do I have an orgasm during intercourse?”

I have to be honest, when I got married 25 years ago and had questions about sex I bought a secular book, “For Yourself” by Lonnie Barbach. Typical of most secular books, it clearly communicated that the chances of women having an orgasm during intercourse were pretty slim, so just concentrate on what did work, and enjoy it.

So that’s what we did. We basically subscribed to the “she comes first” mantra, then afterward my husband would enjoy finishing inside of me.

But the last few years I have read a ton of books on sex, both secular and Christian, and there is a huge divide in what they teach. Even though the Christian books may teach manual techniques for a woman to figure out how to have an orgasm, they all progress to how to have an orgasm during intercourse. Whether it is the perfectly timed transition from foreplay to intercourse, or the strategic tilt of her hips, it can make you feel like everything should just fall into place if you follow the magic formula. It seems like there ought to be a middle ground.

LIVE THE SONG – Stare at me

Song of Songs 1:5-7

She

How right they are to adore you!

Dark am I, yet lovely,
    daughters of Jerusalem,
dark like the tents of Kedar,
    like the tent curtains of Solomon.[c]
Do not stare at me because I am dark,
    because I am darkened by the sun.
My mother’s sons were angry with me
    and made me take care of the vineyards;
    my own vineyard I had to neglect.
Tell me, you whom I love,
    where you graze your flock
    and where you rest your sheep at midday.
Why should I be like a veiled woman
    beside the flocks of your friends

Do not stare at me because I am dark, because I am darkened by the sun.

It kind of jumps out at you, doesn’t it?

IF – The Game Changer

if

During my women’s class Awaken Love , I ask the question, “What gets you in the mood?”

I’ve heard everything from “nothing” to “a glass of wine” to “praying with my husband” to “my husband cleaning the toilet”. There are as many answers as there are women in the world, but there is a common thread I hear over and over that husbands need to understand.

LIVE THE SONG – Yeah!! Marriage!!

Song of Songs 1;1-4

She

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
    for your love is more delightful than wine.
Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
    your name is like perfume poured out.
    No wonder the young women love you!
Take me away with you—let us hurry!
    Let the king bring me into his chambers.

Friends

We rejoice and delight in you[b];
    we will praise your love more than wine.

I like to think of the “Friends” in Song of Songs as cheer leaders encouraging them from the sidelines, saying, ” don’t give up, it is so worth it.”

Marriage is hard – intimacy is hard – yet God wants it to be so good.

WEEKLY MISSION #13

I had an interesting conversation the other day.

I was talking to one of my husbands friends about possibly attending my class for the men and he said,’If everything works, why do I need to worry about learning something new?”  I was a little shocked, because I always figure just the opposite, ” there is always something new to learn.”

Now to be fair, this is probably  the typical answer for most men. It comes from the foundational truth that most men cling to, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

473739183_5c99733c4bWhat men may not realize, is that women are like this complicated stereo component. You can either listen to it, with all the knobs randomly set to the neutral position, and have adequate sound. Or you can learn what all the knobs actually  do, and dial them into each song for the ultimate music.
