Song of Songs 1;1-4
She
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
for your love is more delightful than wine.
3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the young women love you!
4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.
Friends
We rejoice and delight in you[b];
we will praise your love more than wine.
I like to think of the “Friends” in Song of Songs as cheer leaders encouraging them from the sidelines, saying, ” don’t give up, it is so worth it.”
Marriage is hard – intimacy is hard – yet God wants it to be so good.
We need to be cheerleaders for marriage. We need to affirm our friends in their marriage. Encourage them when you see them making their marriage a priority, planning dates, or affirming their spouse. When you notice a marriage that makes you think, “someday I would love to have a marriage like that”, let them know, and ask them their secrets for love. When friends are going through a tough spell, encourage them, pray with them, and point them toward God’s desire for their life and their marriage. Make it a point to ask your friends on a regular basis, “have you been on a date lately?” Be a cheerleader for marriage.
This Week –
1. Affirm a wife that has been a role model to you.
2. Encourage a friend in their marriage by helping them get out on a date – baby sit, give them a gift card to dinner, or invite their kids over for an over-nighter.
3. Ask at least 2 friends, “what have you done with your spouse to have fun this week?”
You have been a role model to me, Ruth! And to so many others….thank you!
