LIVE THE SONG – ONE GLANCE OF YOUR EYES

Song of Songs 4-7-9

You are altogether beautiful, my darling;

there is no flaw in you.

Come with me from Lebanon, my bride,

    come with me from Lebanon.
Descend from the crest of Amana,
    from the top of Senir, the summit of Hermon,
from the lions’ dens
    and the mountain haunts of leopards.
You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride; you have stolen my heart
with one glance of your eyes,   with one jewel of your necklace.

The eyes are so powerful. Over and over in Song of Songs, connection is made through eye to eye contact.

About 3 years ago, my husband and I went on a Senior High mission trip for a week. Since the kids were challenged to no PDa (personal display of affection) in order to focus on God and serving, my husband decided to join in. If you know my husband and me, then you know that we have a hard time keeping our hands off each other – we hold hands, kiss often and intertwine our bodies while we sleep – so this was not going to be easy. To make matters worse, this happened during a period when my sex drive was through the roof – not the best timing – but it challenged us to connect in other ways. We decided to focus simply on connecting “eye to eye”. We would catch each others eyes to communicate we  were thinking about them. As we departed to our separate sleeping quarters each night and said goodnight, we literally loved each other with our eyes.

This world is full of ways to prevent eye to eye contact – tvs, computers, smart phones, video games – all screens that mesmerize and prevent us from seeing our spouse. When was the last time you locked eyes with your spouse and let them know they are special by the twinkle in your eye? Do you allow your spouse to see you, or are you hiding? My natural place to go to is pouting, but my husband has learned that he can draw me out of myself simply by taking my head and turning his eyes to his. When was the last time you locked eyes with your spouse while kissing or during sex?

This Week –

1. Have a screen free night, get naked, lay skin to skin and simply look into each others ideas.

2. While in a crowd, try to catch your spouses eyes from across the room and simply communicate, “uh huh, that’s what I’m talking about.”

3. Light a candle during sex and see how much eye contact you can enjoy during sex.

4. Use your eyes to encourage your spouse or draw them out.
